CASSA Celebrates 27 Years
Former First Lady Nancy Reagan visits CASSA Arts Workshop with CASSA Director,Ruth Stenstrom and participants
Louis M. and Andrew K., March 19, 1992

While many of their images reflect issues of recovery and the dangers of substance abuse, a majority celebrate the simple joys of life--nature, flowers, landscapes, animals, and portraits of loved ones and celebrities. Other works demonstrate the ingenuity, imagination and resilience that is fostered by the arts workshop experience.

Many explore cultural diversity while others have worked with abstraction, color and design to convey feelings and ideas. Their art has been a link to recovery and to the community, as CASSA participants have shared their images with friends and family and in exhibits throughout Washington, DC and on the Internet. Participants are encouraged to partake of the numerous cultural opportunities afforded by Washington area museums and galleries with bi-weekly guided trips to local exhibitions.

Since 2011 participants have also created musical compositions ranging from classical to rap using Garage Band software and a midi keyboard.

In 2012 the workshop expanded to offer fused glass workshops with the possibility of creating pendants and earrings.

Since its inception, the CASSA Arts Workshop has been supported in part with funds from the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities which is supported in part by the National Endowment for Art.http://www.cleanandsoberstreets.orgshapeimage_9_link_0
